I’m starting this new series, if you will, where I will share reflections on Scripture. As the name of this series, “Jot Scriptures,” is intended to suggest, the series will aim to select verses of Christian Scripture that may be under-appreciated (referencing Jesus’ statement that not a jot or tittle of the Law will pass away until all is accomplished [though the verses of Scripture selected will not only come from what we commonly refer to as the Law]).
Another aspect of the series that the name intends to indicate is the small size of the reflections. That is, reflections on the verses will be short—comparable to the size of a “jot.” The goal is to condense my thoughts and provoke thought in others. Of course, more could be said, and more has been said, for each verse (group of verses), but I’m going to aim for 25 words for each reflection, which is enough to provoke thought and short enough to be inviting.
So here’s the first:
Teach me, and I will be silent; make me understand how I have gone astray (Job 6:24 ESV).
Job’s not talking to God.
He wants his friends to tell him why it is that he deserves his circumstances.
He’ll listen, but will they?
